Many people
are active supporters of a particular charity.
During their lives they use their time, energy, as
well as their money to benefit the charity. Even
after death, they can continue to provide a stream
of support for their favorite charity with a
testamentary gift.
Testamentary
gifts are gifts that are left by a will. The gifts
may be very specific, such as a lump sum of money, a
particular parcel of land, certain stocks or bonds,
or personal property such as art, jewelry and the
like.
Some
individuals choose to leave a certain portion of
their assets rather than a specific amount.
The advantage
of a testamentary gift is that you have full use of
the asset during your lifetime. Gifts for charities
are sensible in cases where other beneficiaries are
not particularly needy. It is also a fine way to
show your continued support for your favorite
charity.
Consult with
your attorney to discuss the details of such a
bequest. Your attorney can answer your questions
concerning charitable donations and how they can be
accomplished through a will.
