Job Description

Under the Direction of the the Nurse Assistant Training RN Program Director (NATP) provides quality instruction for students with the objective of qualifying them for a California Certified Nursing Assistant license. Responsible for developing class curriculums and maintains an organized, disciplined classroom environment.  This includes an education program that is conducive to learning and imparts the requirements of the relevant workplace setting to existing students. Assists Director of Staff Development and Education Department Manager in creating policies and procedures as it relates to CNA job responsibilities.  Serves as an educational resource for staff and management.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for maintaining knowledge of the subject matter in the field(s) or appointment and creates learning experiences to make the subject matter meaningful to students.
  • Demonstrates ability to direct educational programs covering the life span including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric population.
  • Prepares students for an entry-level CNA position.
  • Continuously relays the relevance of all modules within the class per CDPH.
  • Provides students with a course syllabus and handbook during the NATP orientation that identify the goals and objectives of the class, the teaching and evaluation methods, and the information and assignments that will be covered in the course.
  • Provides diversified learning experiences for all students to accommodate the different learning styles of the students.
  • Uses appropriate assessment methods such as tests, essays, multiple choice, oral presentations, papers, projects, and practicum.
  • Uses effective classroom management and discipline skills.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of individuals and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, engagement in learning and self-motivation.
  • Uses effective methods for delivery of instruction: lectures, discussions, labs, aids, handouts, and visuals.
  • Makes oneself available to students through informal meetings and mid-module conferences.
  • Advises students regarding their progress and achievement in class including a formal mid-module evaluation.
  • Maintains student educational records and provides oral and written progress reports to department managers.
  • Records and submits attendance daily – include comments for absent students on the attendance roster.
  • Reports student issues to the NATP RN Program director regarding excessive student tardiness, absences, behavioral issues, classroom/equipment issues, etc in a timely manner.
  • Maintains accurate written, chronological records of student advising and behavioral incidents.
  • Maintains budgeted retention levels for classes and implementation of retention plans.
  • Assists Administration in developing a budget for the NA Training Program.
  • Has access and knowledge of documentation meeting standards and regulations.
  • Assists department manager with developing and conducting mandatory State continuing education classes for CNAs as needed.
  • Maintains educational records as required by California State Title 22.
  • Ensure CNAs are trained on and follow the eight medication rights thereby reducing the potential for medication errors.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and other regulations related to the CNA Training Program.
  • Treats patients and families with respect and dignity; always ensures patient confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and organized.
  • Studies current trends, new technology, and new teaching methodologies through professional journals, seminars, conferences, and professional societies.
  • Maintains up-to-date industry knowledge.
  • Assist in the selection of textbooks as needed.
  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of professional career paths for the current students enrolled.
  • Serves as an educational resource for staff and management.
  • Completes annual education requirements, attends annual review, continuous quality improvement activities (CQI), staff meetings and performs departmental in-service.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all states, federal and other regulations. Always maintains and ensures patient/resident and employee confidentiality.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Current California Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse license.
  • A minimum of one year’s experience in long-term care and/or DSD certificate.
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a Clinical Educator preferred.
  • A minimum of one year’s experience in an administrative position.
  • Certification as an instructor in BLS preferred.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Additional languages preferred.
  • Mid-level computer knowledge.
  • Knowledge of learning theories and models.
  • Ability to operate equipment: projectors, audiovisual equipment, cameras, other equipment used in instruction and patient care.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Flexible with ability to multi-task.
