Job Description

The Benefits Specialist supports the Human Resources department by administering company benefits, managing Workers’ Compensation claims, and coordinating Leaves of Absence. This role ensures compliance with state and federal employment regulations and serves as a primary resource for employees regarding HR-related inquiries. The specialist is responsible for accurate data compilation for reporting purposes, including tracking insurance enrollments, claims status, and leaves, and preparing annual EEOC reports. The Benefits Specialist also provides administrative and clerical support and contributes to performance improvement initiatives.

 

Roles & Responsibilities

Administering employee benefits: this includes managing enrollments, changes, terminations, and cobra related issues, Providing Customer Service: Responding to employee inquiries, resolving issues, and interpreting benefit policies. Ensuring Compliance: Staying up to date on relevant regulations (HIPAA, FMLA, COBRA) and ensuring compliance, Maintaining Records: Keeping accurate and organized records of employee benefits information, Communicating Benefits: Developing and distributing materials for benefit orientations, open enrollment, and other communication initiatives. Assisting with Enrollment and changes: Helping employees with enrollment, status changes and other benefit related tasks, Preparing Reports: Generating reports on benefit data and program utilization, managing databases: Implementing and maintaining databases related to employee benefits

 

Qualifications & Skills

High school graduate or equivalent with minimum one (1) year administrative experience.  One (1) year Human Resources support function experience preferred. Must be flexible and demonstrate ability to handle multiple assignments, balance priorities and have strong organizational skills.  Must be able to read, write and understand English and interface professionally, tactfully and respectfully with all staff and the general public.  Good computer knowledge, Strong communication skills: Ability to clearly explain complex information to employees, Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze benefit data and make recommendations, Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accurate records, Problem Solving Skills: Ability to identify and resolve employee benefit issues, Knowledge of Benefits Regulations: Understanding of relevant laws and regulations.
